At a medical conference, a room full of eye surgeons searched for the best cataract practice in their own towns. Only one practice showed up in AI search. It was our client.
Some of the best feedback I've ever had arrived as a short email from a client.
Dr. Peter Polack is one of the partners at Ocala Eye in Florida. We had been working on their AI search visibility for a while: their schema, how their doctors and services are described, and how consistently their practice shows up across the web. Then he wrote to tell me what had happened at a class at ASCRS, one of the big eye surgery meetings.
The doctors in the room were asked to search for the best cataract practice in their own town. Phones came out, and people started typing. Dr. Zora, one of Ocala Eye's surgeons, was the only person whose practice showed up in AI search.
Dr. Polack ended his email with a line I have read many times since: "Thought you would like to know — it is actually working!"
Why this story matters more than a ranking report
I could show you charts. I prefer this story, because it shows what AI visibility actually feels like from the inside. It's a room of peers, all very good at what they do, all with websites, all with patients who love them. One practice gets named. The rest are absent.

Get Your Free AI AuditThat is the nature of AI answers. A search results page can list dozens of practices. An AI answer usually names a handful, and often just one. When you're named, you are the default. When you're not, you're invisible, however good your work is.
For Ocala Eye, the search "best cataract surgery in Ocala FL" now brings up an AI Overview that names the practice and lists its surgeons. They went from being missing or third to consistently holding the first position, sometimes with several of their doctors named in the same answer. You can see the screenshots in the Ocala Eye case study.
It wasn't magic. It was clarity.
People sometimes assume there is a trick to this. There isn't. The work is closer to housekeeping than wizardry:
- Tell machines exactly who you are. Structured data (schema) that names the practice, the doctors and the services, so AI doesn't have to guess.
- Describe each doctor properly. Credentials and specialties belong in plain text on the page, not buried in an image or a PDF.
- Say the same thing everywhere. When your website, your Google profile and the directories agree, AI can trust what it reads.
None of this is glamorous. But when someone at a conference holds up a phone and your name is the one on the screen, it doesn't need to be.
Results vary from business to business, and I would never promise anyone a room full of phones. What I can promise is that clarity compounds. If you'd like to see where you stand today, start with the free AI check.
